The Kitchen/Utility Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the smooth, efficient and organized daily operation of the Utility team in the performance of ware and pot washing, meal cart delivery and collection and securing the kitchen each night.

In conjunction with Back of the House manager and Utility Coordinator, oversees the following:

  • Completes staffing schedule and maintains accurate attendance records thru electronic payroll system. Updates attendance daily to insure accurate records for bi-weekly payroll reporting.
  • Work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, resident-centric environment.
  • Interviews and hires new employees to maintain staffing levels. Coordinates orientation and training of new and existing staff in proper ware washing and sanitation procedures to consistently meet all local and state guidelines.
  • Completes regularly scheduled employee performance appraisals, and makes recommendations for advancement of frontline staff members to Lead positions. .
  • Assigns work tasks and coordinates activities of utility team to ensure all daily activities are completed.
  • Coordinates monthly inservice with Utility team members and provides one and one direction and mentoring to staff as needed.
  • Works directly with the Back of the House Manager and the Chef to ensure that the Department is ‘Inspection Ready’ at all times. Coordinates all daily, weekly cleaning schedules, logs and maintains these records for inspections. Responds to alerts from electronic temperature monitoring system for refrigerated storage.
  • Assists in other areas as needed. Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

  • WORK CONDITIONS/HOURS: Regular Hours are 12:15 PM to 8:45 PM and every other weekend is required. Work collaboratively with Dining Director, Executive Chef, managers and supervisors to oversee a busy upscale dining facility and kitchen.
  • EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Certified Dietary Manager preferred
  • Current ServSafe Certification is Required
  • Minimum 5 years experience in hospitality or food service in acute care, LTC or CCRC settings.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in supervision/management in food service, hospitality or related field.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with residents, staff and visitors.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively multi-task. Excellent problem resolution skills, and the ability to make independent decisions using good judgment.
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards and procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based software.

Essential Functions:

·    Housekeeping: Perform detailed cleaning and sanitizing tasks, empty trash and process recycling in designated areas. May assist with additional cleaning tasks or projects as assigned. Perform work as per quality and quantity standards identified for the job and/or department.

·    Housekeeping: Restock cart with necessary supplies.

·    Laundry: Understand and follow established laundry procedures including proper use of detergents and other chemicals, and safe use of all equipment including washers and dryers. Ensure that an adequate supply of linens is available to meet the “par” level.

·    Properly use, maintain and store equipment.

·    Conduct job duties in a safe manner, following all safety regulations and guidance from safety data sheets, and using proper personal protective equipment for work.

·    Follow written and verbal work plans and assignments.

·    Follow and complete work plans and assignments as per work schedule. Assist others in department when you have time, and ask supervisor for help if you need assistance completing tasks within assigned work schedule.

·    Report work issues to supervisor for help with fixing them.

·    Identify and report work orders for maintenance as needed.

·    Respond in timely manner to clean up accidents and/or in emergency situations.

·    Adhere to Friendsview’s policies and procedures, including those covering privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and codes of conduct. Maintain confidentiality and respects residents privacy at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Assists in the direction and coordination of the activities of maintenance staff, ensuring that quality services are provided to residents and that services provided reflect the principles of the mission, philosophy and objectives of Foulkeways.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with reviewing job orders to determine work priorities and the coordination of daily work for maintenance staff.

Coordinates work with other departments to meet needs of residents and staff, particularly in regards to apartment turnovers.

Assist in the development and Implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

Inspects buildings and property and evaluates use of space and facilities.

Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment, in addition to performing hands on services as needed  to ensure continuous operations.

Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.

Responsible for implementation of preventive maintenance program and energy management program.

Reviews maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.

Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.

Directs training and orientation of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with Foulkeways policies and procedures.

Responsible for safety of maintenance staff and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards; assist in planning and preparing training programs including facility fire drills; monitor work practices to promote and maintain a safe work environment.

Assist with the supervision and scheduling of staff to meet needs of services to residents including cart service and bus service. Recommend to the Director disciplinary action of employees

Assists in preparation of department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget.

Responsible for safety and physical security of residents thought the ongoing development and implementation of an on-site general maintenance staffing plan which provides twenty four hour coverage for the community.

Assists in coordinating the fire protection and fire safety programs, and ensuring a safe work place by careful adherence to OSHA and other appropriate regulations.

Promotes excellent customer service to residents; project a professional and responsive image to residents; follow up with residents on completion of work as needed; respond professionally to resident requests.

Responsible for responding to facility emergency needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week;  participates in the on-call rotation to provide this coverage, including during weather emergencies (i.e. snow removal and fire alarms). Must Coordinate and supervise all snow removal efforts.

Responsible for following the code of conduct that is the foundation for Foulkeways Corporate Compliance program; reporting any violations of the code or conduct of the compliance program; disclosing any personal violation of the code of conduct to the appropriate management staff ; following the policies and procedures Foulkeways has established for meeting HIPAA regulations; reporting any violations of HIPAA regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Director of Maintenance in supervision of, on average, 26 employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Functions:

  • Follows Charge Nurse Routine guidelines for shift to ensure consistency in shift routine. Receives report from previous shift and gives report to the next shift to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Supervises health center staff and directs resident care given by caregivers to ensure quality care is given in accordance with established nursing standards, and facility policies and procedures. Ensures that call lights are answered promptly.
  • Works closely with nursing assistants. Observes skill levels and teaches concepts of nursing care on an informal basis. Assists with nursing assistant performance reviews.
  • Ensures nursing assistants have appropriate information to provide care to residents.
  • Administers, documents and oversees medication administration as ordered, and observes resident reactions. Completes drug and behavior monitoring as per program guidelines.
  • Admits new residents. Performs and documents resident assessments on admission and as needed thereafter.
  • Initiates and updates the resident plan of care.
  • Evaluates residents on the Open Event list, provides care as needed and documents findings.
  • Monitors, documents and reports changes in resident status to physicians and families.
  • Receives, documents and follows through on physician orders.
  • Assists physicians as necessary.
  • Supports the spiritual needs of residents and the work of the Spiritual Care Team.
  • Communicates with and coordinates resident care with outside personnel that are providing services.
  • Responds to outpatient needs as appropriate.
  • Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff and visitors.
  • Performs psychomotor nursing skills, which may include taking vital signs, infection control, administering injections, and assisting with daily living requirements.
  • Follows and enforces back safety precautions for lifting and moving residents and other items.
  • Adheres to Friendsview’s policies and procedures, including those covering privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and codes of conduct. Maintains confidentiality and respects residents privacy at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knows, understands and carries out infection control and standard /transmission-based precautions including appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Knows, understands and responds to emergencies as per responsibilities identified in the Friendsview Emergency Action Plan.
  • Assists as needed in emergency situations. In case of catastrophic event (fire, flood, earthquake, or other emergency) makes all reasonable efforts to report to campus and provide support as directed by emergency coordinator.

  • Attends and participates in orientation, training, in-service, and educational activities to fulfill CEs and as required.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Job Education, Licenses/Certifications, Knowledge & Experience: Current license to practice nursing in the state of Oregon. Prefer a minimum of one (1) year experience in long term care.
  • Supervising (direct reports and level of supervision): Supervision includes immediate supervision of nursing assistants. Mentors and teaches concepts of nursing care to nursing assistants on an informal basis. Assists with nursing assistants’ performance evaluations. Mentors nursing and CNA students.
  • Decision Making: Decision-making, problem solving, and/or recommendations within scope of position responsibilities. Requires interaction with others to solve problems. Must be able to think, act, and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Interpersonal Skills/Interactions: Communication and interpersonal skills are important, and must be well refined. At times, interactions with others are complex, and may be demanding or difficult. Collaboration and cooperation is necessary.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Physical strength, endurance and motor coordination is necessary for frequent periods of walking, standing, performing psychomotor nursing skills and assisting with lifting, transferring and repositioning residents.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
  • Must have good vision, hearing, speech and language abilities in order to perform and communicate nursing activities.
  • Frequently lifts up to 35 pounds. Any lifting of 35 pounds or more requires the use of an assistive device and/or physical assistance.
  • Able to use gait belt and lift as appropriate and assist in lifting/pushing residents including 2-person transfers
  • Exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, infectious diseases, and combative residents is possible.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
