Chandler Hall, a non-profit, Quaker facility, provides high-quality care for older adults in Newtown, Bucks County and offers a wide spectrum of services for individuals at all stages of the aging process including Community Living, Personal Care, Residential Hospice, Home Hospice, Independent Living, Respite Care, and Skilled Nursing Care.

We are currently seeking Life Enrichment Assistant to join our dedicated team of providing meaningful activities and programs to enrich the lives of our residents.

The Life Enrichment Assistant, the role will report to the Director of Life Enrichment and support the Life Enrichment Department by providing person centered and meaningful recreational activities for resident/clients of Chandler Hall. Will assist in planning and facilitating varied activities and events, as well as complete all necessary documentation as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment.

Schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM and every other weekend from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with planning, organizing, and facilitating daily programs and activities which meet the individual needs of the resident/clients and supports the overall dynamics of the community. Assist in maintaining supplies necessary to support programs.
  • Supports overall plan of care by assisting at program transitions; being sensitive to environment influences, group dynamics and safety. 
  • Assists with facilitation of restorative care for residents/clients, in cooperation with other staff including physical and occupational therapies. 
  • Act as a preceptor for all new staff with regards to person centered engagement, communication expectations, responding individually to residents/clients and best practices for working with people living with dementia. 
  • Assist volunteers by providing director, best practices for approaches and program guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate and objective written and oral communication, including calendars, activity attendance records, assessments, care plans and documentation as specific department regulations require.
  • Contribute to Resident/Client Council, staff meetings, and other meetings such as Program, Food, Special Event as warranted.
  • Provide periodic (quarterly) assessments of program outcomes to Director of Life Enrichment. 

Education, Competencies and Experience:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent. College is a plus, preference areas of strength include recreation, music or art therapy.
  • Certificate as an Activity Assistant from National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (NCCAP) a plus, and/or willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail, while effectively multi-tasking.
  • Willingness to learn and take on more responsibility, as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of general office procedures, including knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with others toward a shared goal, participating actively, sharing responsibility and rewards and contributing to the capability of the team.
  • Discover new opportunities and solutions for problems by looking beyond current practices and using innovative thinking.
  • Communicate effectively with older adults, compensating for hearing, visual and cognitive deficits. Will demonstrate respectful and caring behaviors in interactions with patients and their families.
  • Attention to detail and active listening skills.
