The Development Director will serve as the Executive Director of the newly-created Pennswood Foundation, a philothranpic arm for Pennswood Village, Pennswood Village Residents Association, and Hospice Care by Pennswood Village. (www.pennswood.org/foundation). The foundation will officially begin sometime in 2019. Pennswood Village is a nationally respected Senior Living Community (CCRC) for people 65 and over. Nestled in the beautiful countryside of Bucks County, PA, Pennswood is a dynamic community designed for individuals who want a lifestyle with independent services and health care choices on one site.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Development is responsible for the planning and implementation of ongoing fundraising programs that will cultivate and secure funding to meet strategic goals. The Director of Development represents Pennswood Village in a manner that promotes Pennswood Village’s Mission Statement and Quaker Guiding Principles. Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team, sharing the overall responsibility for the operations of the Community.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement an ongoing fundraising program that identifies, cultivates and secures funding to meet the short and long-term needs of Pennswood Village, including gifts from foundations, corporations and individuals, special projects, government grants, and annual fundraising events.
  • Establish goals and objectives for a development plan that clearly defines set time lines and related budgets for annual giving, major/capital giving, and planned giving.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing, develop communications related to recognition and fund development, including publications, brochures, newsletters, press releases, and website postings.
  • Develop and implement strategies for cultivating and soliciting potential donors, including answering inquires, sending out requested material, and visiting and calling potential donors when appropriate.
  • Create and maintain lists of potential donors, ensuring the integrity of donor and gift data, related systems, mailing lists, records and resource files related to fund development. Manage the receipt and administration of deferred gifts.
  • In cooperation with the CFO, ensure all development recording and reporting is consistent. Ensure all gifts are solicited, received, recorded and acknowledged in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws, FASB standards, codes of ethics and Pennswood procedures.
  • Provide orientation, training and guidance to the Board of Directors and others as required on roles and expectations regarding the development program.
  • Produce written financial and statistical reports.
  • Research public and private grant agency opportunities to identify potential sources of funding.
  • Responsible to provide all required support requested by the Stewardship Committee of the Corporate Board.
  • Support other Board Committees as required.
  • Responsible for developing a yearly Development operational budget.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team which shares the overall responsibility for the operations of the Community on a day-to-day basis.
  • Advance the Compliance Program Business Integrity Guidelines in all business conducted on behalf of Pennswood.
  • Assure compliance with current CARF standards, covering area of responsibility. Advance the cultural, racial and ethnic diversity of the workforce.

Position Requirements:

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or related field.
    • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
    • Five (5) years experience in fund development, both strategic and tactical. Senior living industry experience preferred.
    • General knowledge of Microsoft based computer system, including Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and industry standard fund raising software, as required.
    • Ability to effectively articulate and present the mission and work of Pennswood.
    • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, including one-to-one and public speaking.
    • Ability to write speeches and articles for publications.
    • Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, i.e., sitting, bending, stooping, lifting a minimum of 25 pounds and sitting for extended periods of time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
