Our products include Friends Journal, the leading Quaker periodical with a 192‐year legacy of publication; QuakerSpeak, the groundbreaking YouTube channel exploring Quaker beliefs and ministries; and the web properties FriendsJournal.orgQuakerSpeak.com, and Quaker.orgWe’re seeking an Audience Development Specialist to help us grow our audience revenues alongside our audience itself.

The Audience Development Specialist will interface with our executive, development, operations, and editorial staff to understand our products, processes, capabilities, value proposition, and business goals. They will use a variety of communications methods to interact with our audience, including direct mail, telephone, one‐to‐one email, mass email, and social media. They will have or quickly gain experience with the tools at our disposal, including Salesforce CRM, Google G Suite, Slack, WordPress, Aweber, Facebook Business Manager, and Google Analytics. They will bring creativity, humor, compassion, and empathy to the work, both with colleagues and with constituents.

Responsibilities:

  • Take primary responsibility for growing paying member count and membership revenues year over year.
  • Develop, manage, and measure digital and direct mail marketing campaigns to support membership growth and member happiness.
  • Amplify original videos produced by QuakerSpeak and Friends Journal on social media and in email campaigns.
  • Manage FPC’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and any other social media accounts, promoting content and transactional opportunities and engaging social media audiences conscientiously. 
  • Identify potential product, communications, and user interface improvements and help make them a reality. For example, you discover that potential customers are confused about membership options and how to choose what’s right for them. Suggest copy or presentation changes, measure how they perform, and work to improve outcomes and customer satisfaction. Pitch original text and video content (a regular column, a theme for a blog, a video series, etc.) to maximize content creation and develop a responsive relationship with readers/viewers/members.
  • Create, measure, and improve email campaigns (broadcast and drip) that support membership growth, content marketing, and fundraising efforts.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and with feedback from members to refine and improve our communications templates, such as forms, form letters, and phone scripts.

Desired Qualifications:

  • College‐level coursework or equivalent professional experience in marketing, business development, statistics, or a related field
  • 1 to 5 years experience in an operational role with any of the following: B2B or B2C e‐commerce, nonprofit organizations, publishers, religious groups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to competently and confidently represent the organization to existing and new constituencies
  • Understanding of Friends Journal & QuakerSpeak’s brand “voice”
  • Excellent self‐editing skills
  • Strategic planning for social media campaigns and understanding of different social media platforms and how content should be optimized uniquely for each
  • The ability to transform text into engaging digital content with SEO‐friendly headline and description, smart hyperlinking, and embedded social media and video elements
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Desire to delight and engage customers around our content

This is a full‐time position based in Philadelphia. Compensation includes a salary of $45,000–55,000 annually (depending on experience) and an excellent benefits package including medical and dental insurance and a 401(k) retirement plan.
