Webinar: Siri, Alexa and Echo: Benefits and Drawbacks of Voice Assistants Within Your Organization
Presented by: Cynthia Haines, Post & Schell & Larry Zook, Landis Homes

Long-term care facilities can benefit from the use of technology to provide better services to residents. One that has garnered attention since its introduction is the voice-activated assistant, such as Amazon’s Echo and Alexa and Apple’s Siri. In addition to everyday task capabilities, there are plans for Alexa to be used in providing healthcare services, such as assisting physicians in taking notes, allowing patients to access medical information or allowing remote monitoring. However, typical use of voice-activated systems is not currently compliant with HIPAA or certain state laws. While certain features are expected to be added to voice-activated technology to facilitate HIPAA compliance in the near future; the proper technical and security safeguards have not been implemented by Amazon.

Learn about how these devices can enhance resident life and services, and also about the concerns they present, such as Alexa’s “passive listening” function, and the security measures necessary for storing such information to defend against hackers.

This webinar is open to staff and residents of FSA and APG member organizations and partners.
