Donna Gallen and Diane Phifer Foulkeways
L to R: Diane and Donna

Twins Donna Gallen and Diane Phifer have made Foulkeways their second family for 44 years. They were hired on August 8, 1977, as hostesses for the dining hall. As their lives changed and they became moms, Donna and Diane opted to go part-time. They have been the Dining Services Administrative Assistants for the past 19 years. Although they job share, each has their own area of expertise.

Donna and Diane view Foulkeways as their home away from home. The loving environment created by the residents and co-workers made it easy for them to foster close relationships. According to Donna, “the residents are remarkable,” which is a huge part of why the decision to stay at Foulkeways for these many years was easy.  Another reason why the sisters stayed at Foulkeways for more than four decades is its Quaker values.

As they reflect back on their history at Foulkeways, Diane shared how the residents were able to share in her special wedding day. As newlyweds, Diane and her husband made a special visit to greet her second family. As she strolled through the dining hall in her wedding gown, the residents all cheered. Donna also shared a milestone. She introduced her twin girls to the residents and was greeted with love and warmth. Through the years, the residents served as the twins’ second grandparents.

Both sisters believe that faith is the key to their happy lives. Donna started her career at Foulkeways on August 8 and has had a successful journey. She believes that her daughter, who recently got married on August 8, will also have a successful and long-lasting marriage. The date may be a coincidence, but Donna thinks there is a correlation.
