Broadmead, Cockeysville, MD | Administrative/Management Intern
The Intern will report directly to the CEO and/or Executive Designee while also working collaboratively with other executives and/or directors. Areas of learning opportunities will be provided to meet the Intern’s learning objectives may include some, or all, of the following: Healthcare, Human Resources, Finance, Facilities, Management/Leadership Philanthropy, Basic Qualifications and Skills, Personal Behaviors, and Marketing, Diversity & Inclusion.  

Educational Objectives and Project Goals
Additional learning opportunities may be identified during the candidate interview process. An individualized curriculum will be developed in collaboration with the CEO, Executive Designee, and the Intern.

Foxdale Village, State College, PA | Management Healthcare Intern
Interface with staff, leadership, and residents throughout their work on their many projects. Additionally, time will be allotted for the student to attend, shadow, or participate in committees, meetings and inter-departmental communications as aligns with their educational interests. 

Educational Objectives and Project Goals
Work will include conducting a review and assessment of current staff utilization and access profiles of Point-Click Care (PCC) healthcare-based software, with the objective of developing support materials to create access profiles for staff roles; create and set up new hire checklists for use of PCC; and training or review recommendations lists or guidance.

The intern will also analyze the resident item completion in PCC, including demographics and care profiles, identify what they are being used for and develop process improvement recommendations for how to complete this item fully and accurately.

Foxdale Village, State College, PA | Healthcare Policy Intern
This internship will provide opportunities to interface with staff, leadership, and residents throughout their work on various projects.  Additionally, time will be allotted for the student to attend, shadow, or participate in committees, meetings and inter-departmental communications as aligns with their educational interests. 

Educational Objectives and Project Goals
Review materials in Health Care for updates with objective of identifying items in need of update. The intern will also develop a standard procedure or check list to ensure that all items that need updating are updated. Lastly, the intern will be responsible for noting any changes in practices or staffing roles.

Friends House Retirement Logo

Friends House Retirement Community, Sandy Spring, MD | Human Resources Internship

The ideal candidate would be someone studying Psychology or Human Resources. They would benefit from this internship by gaining experience in implementing systems to bring Friends House Human Resources into the digital world, create systems and processes, and communicate new policies to senior staff and staff at large. The intern would be supervised by the Director of Human Resources. 

Educational Objectives and Project Goals
This intern will have the experience of creating a HR manual, develop a process to store vital records in the cloud, create an e-signature system and policy, and create educational videos to help communicate to staff.

Also, the HR Intern will monitor compliance audits, FMLA audits, PTO audits, health records, assist with the payroll process, and conduct a wage and benefit survey.

The HR Intern will assist in “telling the story of Friends House Employees” on the newly revised website. They will prepare the benefit brochure, interview staff and produce videos telling their stories.

Friends House Retirement Community | Resident Services Internship
Gain experience in implementing systems serving our independent living residents. Work includes researching available resources and expanding the existing resource library, developing person-centered programs for individuals with unique needs and preferences, and interviewing residents and developing a project that draws upon resident biographies. The intern will be supervised by the Resident Services Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be someone studying Psychology, Social Work or Healthcare Management. 

Educational Objectives and Project Goals

  1. Learn about the unique needs of older adult populations from a diverse income group.
  2. Learn about the various departments involved in resident services in a retirement community.  
  3. Learn facilitation and communication methods for older adult populations and their families.

Friends House, Sandy Spring, MD |  Human Resources IT/Information Services Intern
The ideal candidate would be someone studying Computer Science. The intern will gain experience in implementing systems to bring Friends House IT into the digital world. They will create computer support systems and processes, as well as communicate new policies to all staff. 

Educational Objectives and Project Goals
This intern will have the experience of creating an IT process to store vital records in the cloud and create an inventory of all computer devices and policies for their use. Additionally, he/she will clean up existing shared drives.

Friends House, Sandy Spring, MD | Development and Marketing Intern
This intern would be intimately involved in developing methods to “Tell the story of Friends House.” They would benefit from this internship by gaining experience in website, print and digital newsletter production, donors proposals, research, public relations, marketing and list management. Good writing and editing skills are a must. The ideal candidate would be someone studying the field of Media, Administration, Journalism or Fundraising. ​​​​​​​

The intern would be supervised by the Director of Development and interact with other members of the senior management team. They would also work with DonorPerfect software and the Friends House marketing firm.

The intern will assist with the following:

  1. Assist with the maintenance of the Friends House Website
  2. Compose and complete a Friends House Newsletter
  3. Increase social media presence
  4. Assist with research for donor proposals
  5. Database and list management

The Friends House Development and Marketing Intern will:

  • Apply a lifetime of social media skills to the benefit of a wonderful non-profit.
  • Gain experience in various media, and fundraising tactics.
  • Teach others how to follow in their footsteps by writing a standard operating procedure for the next group of interns arriving at Friends House.

Kendal at Oberlin, Oberlin, OH | Aging Services Support Groups Intern
Kendal at Oberlin is looking for an energetic student who wishes to work in long term care, who is working on their undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the following: Psychology, Social Work, Art or Music Therapy. Intern will have appropriate supervision of qualified personnel, depending on student degree requirements. This internship brings the opportunity to work closely with the interdisciplinary team that includes a Director of Creative Arts Therapy, Counselors, certified dementia practitioners, music therapist, art therapist, social services, nursing, administration, and physicians. The intern’s eight weeks will be working with Kendal at Oberlin’s residents, family, staff, and volunteers to offer much needed support groups. Intern should be able to understand group dynamics.

Educational Objectives and Project Goals: 

  • Create and facilitate a support group for individuals who are actively caregiving for individuals with cognitive loss/dementia.
  • Create and facilitate a support group for individuals who are living with cognitive loss/dementia. 
  • Create a plan for Kendal at Oberlin to maintain the program after the student leaves.

    Learning Objectives:
  • The intern will be able to verbalize how Linked Senior engages older adults through digital technology platform.
  • The intern will be able to create a training program to successfully transition the one on one/small group program to family and volunteers upon the student’s completion of their internship.
  • The intern will establish relationships with residents to engage in meaningful interactions. The intern will be able to take responsibility for program implementation, documentation of results, and writing up weekly reports.

Kendal at Oberlin, Oberlin, OH | Linked Senior and Oberlin Internship
Kendal at Oberlin is looking for an energetic student who wishes to work in long term care, has a basic understanding of digital technology, and who wishes to gain knowledge in providing engaging programming to our residents living at their optimal level of care. This internship brings the opportunity to work closely with the interdisciplinary team that includes a Director of Creative Arts Therapy, IT specialist, certified dementia practitioners, music therapist, art therapist, social services, nursing, administration, and physicians.  

The intern will be working with Kendal at Oberlin’s Director of Creative Arts Therapy, the Linked Senior team, and Kendal at Oberlin residents, family and volunteers. The intern will run an eight-week Linked Senior one-on-one and small group program for older adults who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities.  

Educational Objectives and Project Goals:

  • Learn to verbalize how Linked Senior engages older adults through digital technology platform.
  • Create a training program to successfully transition the one-on-one/small group program to family and volunteers.
  • Establish relationships with residents to engage in meaningful interactions. The intern will be able to take responsibility for program implementation, documentation of results, and writing weekly reports.
  • Establish relationships with Linked Senior to set benchmarks for reporting.
