  • The Growing Trend of Ransomware: What You Can Do to Make Your Organization Less Vulnerable
John DiMaggio | President, CEO, Blue Orange Compliance

In 2021, the damage from cyber-crime is expected to hit $6 trillion. We also expect to see a massive surge in the number of ransomware threats. The reason for this includes the acceleration of digital transformation and the widespread transition to remote work. During the course of the year, the number of cyberattacks has grown and their complexity has increased. It will become increasingly important to have a plan in the event of your organization experiencing a cyber attack. We will go over the best practices for setting up and optimizing a cyber security program, the latest on new cyber insurance requirements, incident response best practices as well as simple steps your organization can take to make yourself less vulnerable to nefarious actors.

  • Trauma-Informed Care: More Essential Than Ever
Jill A. Schumann, MBA | Retired President and CEO, LeadingAge Maryland

Creating a trauma-informed culture has never been more important than in the time of COVID. After a review of trauma, clinical aspects of trauma, and the principles of trauma-informed care, this session will delve into the intersections of the COVID-19 pandemic and trauma-informed care. Special considerations for older adults, families and varied settings will be explored. The session will also highlight the importance of paying attention to staff concerns and suggesting ways organizations can provide supportive environments that build resilience. We will draw on participants' insights and observations. Concrete examples and resources will allow participants to jump into action right away in their own settings and roles.

  • Avoiding Employment Pitfalls in the Post-COVID Workplace
Andrea M. Kirshenbaum | Chair, Employment and Labor Practice Group, Post & Schell PC

As COVID-19 vaccinations continue to progress, employers and employees alike have begun to embrace a return to some semblance of “normal” in the workplace. Yet, both find a working environment that has been transformed during the pandemic, including the potential implementation of vaccine mandates for employees and the rise of remote work arrangements that are likely to be embraced beyond the pandemic. In this presentation, we will examine the challenges facing employers in a post-pandemic operating environment. We will discuss establishing and communicating post-pandemic policies and expectations, including structuring remote work arrangements and protocols. Also covered will be the consideration and implementation of employee vaccine mandates and how state and federal laws impact the possibility of these mandates. This includes lessons learned from the flu vaccine landscape and what individuals are lawfully exempt from vaccine requirements.

  • The Journey to a Culturally Competent Organization
Marsha Wesley Coleman | Director of Learning and Development, FSA

Developing a culturally competent organization is a marathon, not a race. Building awareness of your clients’ cultural differences and adapting services accordingly is essential not only because it creates an inclusive environment, but because not doing so may be discriminatory. In this session, we will define cultural competence and uncover biases that may currently exist within your business practices.  We will also explore ways your organization can ensure it is accommodating a culturally diverse population of residents, clients, employees and business partners.
